Viennese Pumpenhorn - Wiener F Horn - part 3

Five sounding side maximas besides the main sound frequency are a great advantage for the sound production. The sound remains noble in the heroic forte, but also carrying velvet in the piano. This over tone rich sound mixes at best with the woodwinds & the strings as well with the voices, much better than a modern double horn or a modern rotary valve horn. As the main air column inside the valve system remains undisturbed, the natural slurs are much easier as on modern horns. As the horn stands in F, the whole scale of available natural tones is shifted downwards and more open notes are available, so the player (playing in the main range between written c1 to c3) will be moving more in a range, where natural notes are located very near each other, thus requiring a special fine skill from the player. As the sound column is undisturbed while using the natural tones available for the F-horn, the horn sounds absolutely free like a "raffined" hunting  horn.

Fünf neben der Hauptfrequenz mitschwingende Nebenmaxima sind ein grosser Vorteil bei der Klangerzeugung. Der Klang bleibt auch im heroischen Forte nobel, aber auch weich und tragend im Piano. Der obertonreiche Klang mischt sich bestens mit den Holzbläsern, den Streichern oder den Gesangsstimmen, besser als jedes moderne Doppelhorn oder Horn mit Drehventilen. Da die Luftsäule bei nicht betätigten Ventilen völlig glatt durch das Ventilsystem verläuft, können Naturbindungen ohne Betätigung der Ventile - das Gleiten von Naturton zu Naturton - viel besser gelingen. Da das Horn in F steht, stehen dem Bläser in den hauptsächlich verwendete Bereichen zwischen notiertem c1 und c3 wesentlich mehr Naturtöne zur Verfügung als auf dem B-Horn oder gar dem hoch-F-Horn. Die Naturtöne stehen allerdings dann oft in sehr geringem Abstand voneinander.Das bedarf einer zusätzlichen Geschicklichkeit des Bläsers. Da die Luft- oder Klangsäule bei den F-Naturtönen ungestört verläuft, ist der Hornklang frei wie bei einem "veredelten" Jagdhorn.
